Ratings: Idol Rules, But Modern Family Keeps Growing

Modern Family drew 10.1 million viewers, an increase of 8 percent from last week, and tied its season high in the adults 18-to-49 demographic. Its lead-in, The Middle (8.2 million), was also up, improving 11 percent to reach a series high. Faltering against Idol , Cougar Town shed more than 3 million of Family ’s viewers and fell sharply in the 18-to-49 demo. Cougar Town’s Ian Gomez: I’m Happy Andy’s Not a "Schmucky Neighbor Next Door"

Ian Gomez , who plays beleaguered husband Andy on the show, says the similarities don’t end with Courteney Cox ’s involvement. “It’s funny how Cougar Town started as a show about a woman dating a younger man, and now it’s kind of turning into an ensemble show about a bunch of friends and their misadventures,” Gomez tells TVGuide.com. “And Lisa [Kudrow] came on! [ Friends ] did very well and I would be very happy if ours is half as successful as that.
