Sons of Anarchy – Season two, episode 11 – Service : Recap and Review

It’s been far, far too long since I did one of these for SOA, but after watching tonight’s episode, I was finally reminded of what I just love
about this series to begin with. The boys most definitely did a good job here, and I’m impressed. If you HAVEN’T seen the episode yet, come back when you have, unless you want the whole thing spoiled for you ;)

The tension between Jax and Clay has been reduced quite drastically, due to Gemma’s telling them about the rape. Of course, that was the idea behind her doing this, and I’m not surprised it worked at all.  As expected, we open back up with Jax putting the patches back on his cut, and the club finds out about the rape. Of course, they’re surprised and say that they’re  all in for revenge, and all of them call for it immediately. Surprisingly enough, Clay puts an end to the call for immediate revenge, and Jax proposes that they handle things how LOAN have been handling things, strategically. With no supplier though, they have to rely on their own personal stash for guns.

Gemma talks to Tara about telling the boys about what happened, and Gemma tells her that she thinks Clay doesn’t want her because of what happened. She tells her that men want to “own” their women.

Tara walks in on Jax packing his stash of guns up, and they get into a conversation about the future. She tells him what really happened at the hospital, and that she’s tired of hiding stuff from him. She tells him she wants a family, that she will eventually need more than what they have. He tells her that he thinks what they have is moving towards the same direction.

Gemma walks in on Tig grabbing Clay’s stock (and drinking), and offers her stock. After dropping her cases, she starts to make the moves on him, and they end up in a rather passionate scene. Just before doing anything serious, though, Tig sees a picture and wonders what they’re doing, breaking it off.

Tig goes to the auto shop where Opie is finishing up his bike. He tells Opie what really happened, and they get into it, as expected. Jax rides up and calls for Clay, breaking Opie and Tig up, and Tig tells the club what really happened. Opie takes off to chase after Stahl and Jax follows.

At the police station, Jax meets Hale and tells him what’s going on. Unser comes out and tells Hale that the boys found out about Gemma, and he’s going to do right by her. He tells Hale that he’s going to help a friend, and he should do whatever he needs to do. Could this be the last we see of  Chief Unser? Jax takes off to follow Zobelle/Weston and hopefully get a clue where Opie is and stop him from getting in more trouble

Back at the club, Tara fixes up Tig and half sack tells her there’s been a problem with his operation. He pulls down his pants and shows her that he’s swollen, asking her if it’s normal. Of course, that’s all just comedy right there.

Piney stops by his wife’s house (are they still married), tells her that he’s sorry he never gave her the chance to be a good mom or wife, obviously throwing her (and me) for a loop. He then takes off.

Back at the cigar shop,  Zobelle and Weston are finishing up some business, and Zobelle tells Weston to go pick up the guns from the Irish while he does something else. Weston asks if he can help afterwards, and Zobelle says it’s not necessary.

At the clubhouse, the stock is put together, and Clay says they’re going to have to go back in business with the Irish. Chibbs, meanwhile, is in a room elsewhere with Stahl, who has changed her deal to suit herself, since she has what she needs. Chibbs says he’s not going to have it, and tries to walk out, but Stahl threatens to let it out that he helped her to begin with. She hands him the deal, gives him until the end of the day to look it over, and he walks out. Outside the office, Opie sees Chibbs walk out and putting the paper in his coat. He resumes following Stahl.

Meanwhile, Zobelle and the Mayans have a get together, discussing future business. Zobelle tells them that he will open up the pipelines for their H business, but he wants 50% of the income, threatening to pull his cash and money if they say no. Of course, they say yes, and Jax sees him walking in and out of the meeting with the Mayans. Weston is not present. At the docks, Weston meets with Jimmy O, dealing with the guns. Jimmy tells Weston this is the last shipment.

Stahl has someone follow Weston, and goes into her car to return Hale’s call.  Seeing his opportunity, Opie goes up to her, pulls his gun and tells her to get out of the car. He threatens her, pulls the clip from his gun and hands it to her. As he leaves, he tells her to remember that the outlaw had mercy, and he walks away. She gets back into her car, crying, of course.

Gemma finds herself sitting in front of a parish, smoking. The priest walks up to her, asks her if he can bum one, and they get into conversation about life in general. He tells her that she should focus on helping people, as it worked for him.

Jax meets up with Opie at his place, and the truth comes out about what’s been between Jax and Clay. Opie asks him what to do, how he should share a patch with them. Jax tells him that it’s the club that did it, and that he needs his help unmaking the mess that it is right now. He hands him what he’s been reading since the series started, the notes from John.

The boys meet with Jimmy O, telling him that they need guns. Chibbs obviously has a problem with that and they make all nicey nice. They agree to stop supplying guns to LOAN and they get the promise that the next shipment to LOAN will be to them instead, on the house.

Back at his place, Piney looks to be putting things away, getting his affairs in order. He puts everything into a chest, including his vest, and pulls out a gun. Meanwhile, Opie is sitting on the roof of the auto shop, reading the notes John left.

At the table, Opie asks how the club is going to make this right, and nobody has any answers. He says he’s staying and that the secret must die in the room. He tells them what he saw Chibbs doing, and says they need to hear him out.

Back at the auto shop, Gemma walks in on Chibbs thinking by himself, and puts the advice of the priest to the test. She tells him to tell them what’s going on, as that’s the only way to get things right again.

At the table, Jax tells the club what he’s seen, Zobelle being with the Mayans, Weston being missing. Clay suggests that they unravel that, causing LOAN to pull apart from the inside. Chibbs walks in and tells them what he did, or what he was going to do, and that he didn’t do it. Clay tells him he’s not a rat.

Piney’s seen pulling up to the club and pulling a gun from his bike. He storms in, shooting wildly, not hitting anyone. Opie tells them to give him the room, and he talks to his dad. After a few minutes, he comes out, telling Clay that Piney was just acting in his best interest, trying to save Opie from killing Clay by doing it himself. He says that Piney’s dead without the club. Piney walks out, Clay tells him not to come into the clubhouse without his cut again.

As they leave the clubhouse, Tig pulls Clay aside and tells him that Gemma needs to feel loved and wanted. Clay walks into the office where Gemma is, saying they need to go home. She says she’s working, so Clay slams the door shut and says he wants his wife and throws the paperwork off the desk, taking her there.

All in all, a very well done episode, and surprisingly enough, it cleaned up 2 of the 4 plotlines rather well. I don’t suspect we’ll EVER see Clay and Jax working perfectly together, as the show just wouldn’t function without their chemistry.
I think this may be the last season (year) for Unser as chief, which may bring in season 3 with Hale as the new “enemy” as it were. We’ll just have to wait and see how they wrap up season two in the next couple episodes, though.
